It is a quiet time in Białowieża. The breeding season of raptors is over and several, though not all of them, have left the forest, as the GPS loggers show. It's time for us to prepare for tagging more raptors next year; that means searching for their nests, which is much easier now in the leafless forest than it was in the summer.
Days are dark and short; there is not much time for searching. Freshly fallen snow does not make the job any easier. Seldom calls of tits and tapping of woodpeckers are the only vocal entertainment around. Fresh hoofprints, however, remind that a much bigger company is also nearby... 🙂
