This summer, we concentrated on trapping and tagging our target species. These were extensive fieldworks, and we needed some help. Fortunately, we managed to engage an international group of Estonian, Polish, and Finnish biologists, mostly PhD students.
We spent a lot of time in the Białowieża Forest, saw bison many times, walked through the forest and its open glades, and most importantly, we caught 13 buzzards and 4 more goshawks, so we now track a total of 10 of the latter species. We plan to put a few more loggers next year, but we’re more than halfway through this task. For those interested in preliminary results, good news: we will present them at the Białowieża Ecology Conference this September (https://bialowiezaecologyconference.org/).
We would like to thank the summer field crew: Grete, Freddy, Jaan, Josephine, and Paweł B.
You were great, and we hope for more help next year!
